Possible Rent Moratorium Relief Coming Very Soon

In a routine meeting on July 24^th, the California Judicial Council made an announcement that they would “very soon” vote on rescinding temporary rules regarding unlawful detainer evictions and foreclosures.

Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye mentioned that the council attempted to vote on these issues in the beginning of June, but the governor and legislative leaders asked to postpone the vote to give them time to sort through various policy proposals.

If the council decides to vote in favor of ending these eviction protections put in place in early April, the rescission would be effective on August 14, 2020.

These protections were put in place in response to tenants facing substantial income loss due to hardships caused by the COVID-19 Pandemic.
