The process of gaining muscle and losing fat at the same time is called body recomposition. Most scales don’t differentiate between the amounts of body fat and the amount of muscle you have. For example, two people can weigh 150 pounds, but have completely different body fat and muscle proportions. In this example, the person with a higher muscle to body fat ratio, will likely wear smaller clothes and have a more lean and fit physique because muscle is denser and takes up less than fat. If you are gaining muscle and losing body fat at the same time your overall all weight loss goal may be very slow, but that does not mean it is ineffective! That is why it is important to think about more metrics than just weight when measuring progress.
