Muscle increases basal metabolic rate- the calories you burn at rest. Meaning, it actually makes fat loss easier because lean tissue burns more calories at rest than fat tissue, not only improving body comp, but allowing you to eat more while losing fat. Building muscle creates an “after burn” effect, meaning your body burns more calories outside of your workouts, making fat loss even easier. This means you don’t have to do “as much” workout wise, because you are naturally increasing metabolic rate via that increased lean tissue. Muscle requires protein intake, which has a higher thermic effect when digested. It burns the more calories via digestion in comparison to any other nutrient, increasing calorie burn without having to reduce calories as well as keeping you satiated for much longer.
